Oyster Bay is a concept with the goal of spreading awareness about the Chesapeake Bay’s symbiotic relationship with all walks of life on the East Coast. Through visualization and messaging, Oyster Bay seeks to explain the intricacies of wildlife and the complex systems of environments around us.
Similar to the environment, it is an ever changing and evolving personal project of mine.
The idea of Oyster Bay has been a long time coming. I grew up born and raised in Maryland with a waterman as a father, and found myself drawn to the bay and ocean throughout childhood. I always heard stories from my grandfather and father about the spoils of the Chesapeake Bay yielding fairytale sizes and portions.
Fond childhood memories of fishing with my grandfather, father, brother and cousin on the Chesapeake bay in the summer months. I remember watching the depth monitor on the boat in anticipation and excitement of fish swimming below the boat and wondering where we might set anchor. The idea grew from appreciation of memories the Bay has provided for me and my family over the years to sharing awareness of how integral our environment and where we live is to our wellbeing. This illustration aims to bring the fun spirit of childhood awe while showing how our everyday actions, homes, businesses, and roadways affect others and the wildlife around us. No matter how far or how high you are away from the Chesapeake Bay, the little things you do and we do collectively have a drastic impact on the world around us.
